Putnam County is in the north east part of Florida and sits on the St. Johns River.
The county seat of Putnam County is Palatka, which sits on the western bank of the St. Johns river and is famous for excellent bass fishing. The Ford Gates Ferry is the oldest operating ferry in florida and takes cars and passengers between Welaka on the east side of the St. Johns River to the Ocala National Forest on the west side.
